2018 Master Entrepreneur Award Recipient
Webb Family Enterprises - Ontario
There are many words to describe Reginald “Reggie” Webb. Trailblazer. Innovator. Risk taker. Role model. But perhaps the best descriptor is what Reggie embodies in everything he does: Entrepreneur.
Webb’s entrepreneurial journey started when he first went to work for McDonalds in 1973. His business acumen and work ethic fueled a quick rise through the ranks at McDonalds, culminating is his promotion to Senior Vice President in 1982. It was at this point that Webb did what most people would never do after reaching that level of success – he left the stability of the comfortable corporate position to venture out and create what would ultimately become Webb Family Enterprises by launching two McDonald’s restaurants in Pomona.
Webb notes that the impetus for this change was relatively simple. In addition to the challenges of working for a large corporation where decision making and change was often slow, he also realized that his children would “never inherit my job.” Since 1985, Webb has steadily grown the company to where they now operate 16 stores in Baldwin Park, Claremont, Colton, La Puente, Montclair, Ontario, Pomona, Rancho Cucamonga, San Bernardino and West Covina. At the same time, Webb was playing an active role in shaping the franchise environment for McDonald’s, serving as the chairman and CEO of the National Black McDonald’s Operators Association and chairman of the National Leadership Council for McDonald’s owner/operators, an organization that encompasses 11,000 of the nation’s 13,000 McDonald’s restaurants.
But Webb hasn’t stopped with restaurant ownership. Webb Family Enterprises includes a variety of businesses, investments in emerging companies, real estate development and their unique Cooperative Economic Empowerment Movement (CEEM), geared towards infusing wealth and prosperity into the Inland Empire and Greater Los Angeles’ African-American communities. The organization provides entrepreneurial workshops and support to business owners. Along with business ventures, the Webb family also gives back by providing scholarships and funding to local high schools within the Inland Empire.
Even more fundamental is that Webb and is wife Renee, have created a generational legacy with Webb Family Enterprises. Webb’s daughter Kiana serves as President and Chief Operating Officer of the firm and son Kyle currently works as the Chief Financial Officer. Oldest son Karim, following the entrepreneurial lead of his father, has ventured off on his own to own serval businesses including four Buffalo Wild Wings locations.
While Webb Family Enterprises has created a generational legacy and is a resounding business success, Reggie Webb hasn’t stopped there. He has been active in the community, consistently giving both time and resources to a wide variety of community organizations. Further, he is widely viewed as a pioneer in the industry, helping pave the way for many African-Americans to own their own franchises.
Given his entrepreneurial spirit, we are sure that Webb and Webb Family Enterprises will continue to thrive and make a difference in the community!
